Tzahi discovered yoga between rehearsals, early in his acting career. In 2005 he became a teacher at Be Yoga (later YogaWorks). Another teacher there urged him to take an Iyengar Yoga class with Mary Dunn and he was struck by its effects on his body and mind — it was a perfect fit and Tzahi was hooked, and so he became a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher.
Tzahi spent the summer of 2012 studying Yoga with the Iyengar family in Pune, India and has carried a level 2 certification since 2014. He has assisted in the Specific Needs class, has participated in the workshop series “Yoga for Amputees”, and is certified as a Yoga therapist with IAYT. He served 3 terms on the Board of IYAGNY and served as treasurer and a member of the executive committee.
Tzahi’s classes are renowned for their clarity and vitality but also for their humor and lighthearted spirit. His teaching is informed by the immense wisdom of our teachers and also by the immense body of knowledge in kinesiology. He hones in on the aspects of practice that were mind-bogglingly ahead of their times, while letting go of the parts that are outdated.
In class and through his newsletter, Tzahi loves sharing insights on the practice of yoga and enjoys observing his students make their own discoveries in this vast, wonderful subject. When not practicing or teaching, he can be found on the UWS baking bread, listening to Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan, coaching soccer, riding his bike, writing, or spending time with his wife Tamara and his son Theo, who provide all the delight one could ever ask for.
