Lisa Kazmer

Lisa Kazmer has been a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher since 2021 and has been teaching yoga full time since 2006. She attended the Teacher Education Program at the NY Institute and is mentored by Matt Dreyfus. She has made numerous trips to India and has attended two yoganusanasam conventions in Pune with Geeta Iyengar. Lisa is now one of a handful of CIYTs in New Hampshire, where she currently lives, while remaining on faculty at the Institute by teaching remotely.

Lisa has lived internationally in both Hong Kong and Singapore, teaching yoga while her husband’s job brought them overseas for three years. Hong Kong is where she really began practicing Iyengar Yoga in earnest after meeting George Dovas at the Iyengar Yoga Centre of Hong Kong. After years of practicing other styles of yoga she was struck by the way Iyengar Yoga builds in logical and sequential way, engaging the intelligence to carry the practitioner to a profound and penetrating experience.

At the Iyengar Yoga Institute of NY, she currently serves on the Institute Council and has assisted in the Specific Needs and Gentle classes for years. She has been involved in many aspects of our yearly Yogathon fundraiser; from MCing the event and performing musical theater/yoga spoofs, to facilitating as stage manager and planning. The Iyengar Yoga Institute of NY, teachers, colleagues, and students are constant sources of inspiration and support.

Alongside yoga, Lisa is a passionate amateur participant in many things -- arts and crafts of every kind, history and genealogy, literature and theater. She swims, shoots longbow, and can’t resist a gentle hike in the woods with her dog, or a thrift shop. As a teacher, she hopes to develop curiosity, clarity, and ease in her students through compassionate teaching, insightful instruction, and humor. She is inspired to move toward with steadiness and ease through her yoga practice and teaching as laid out in the Yoga Sutras.
