Rachel began practicing Yoga in 1999 after graduating with a BFA in Dance. She started teaching in 2004 and found the Iyengar method in 2007. Her first teachers were Genny Kapuler and Tori Milner. The Iyengar method's precision, depth, and adaptability initially inspired Rachel. It challenged her on every level, which was both humbling and exciting. She completed Iyengar teacher training, traveled to India to study with the Iyengars, and became certified in the Iyengar method. She continues to study with her primary teacher, Michelle LaRue.
Rachel taught dance and children’s movement classes for nine years before teaching Yoga. She currently works part-time as a movement specialist at a private school in Brooklyn. She lives with her husband, son, pug, budgies, and numerous plants, and she belongs to her local CSA, food coop, and two community gardens. She enjoys attending performances, preparing simple home-cooked meals, learning about neurophysiology and psychology, spending time with family and friends, and exploring nature.
Rachel’s teaching is grounded in a deep understanding of the body. Her instructions are both precise and nuanced, promoting intentional movement - and encouraging students to engage with each pose and transition fully.
The Iyengar method’s unique ability to improve one’s quality of life on all levels inspires Rachel to make it her life’s work.
