Dan Shuman

LEVEL 1

Brooklynite Dan Shuman began practicing yoga in 2004, and teaching in 2009. He completed the Iyengar Yoga Association of Greater New York Teacher Training Program in 2015, and became certified at Intro I/II in September 2016. He initially took to yoga as a way to recuperate from running, but found an infinitely vast landscape. He values the Iyengar Yoga method for its depth, precision, and tradition of pedagogical excellence. “The more I got to know the community of great teachers, each with their own angle on tradition, the more I wanted to be a part of it,” says Dan. He values Iyengar Yoga’s appeal to such a varied population, and considers his students to be his best teachers.

An accomplished musician, Dan holds a B.A. in Jazz Studies in Performance from William Paterson College. His work as a bassist, composer, and arranger has been featured on more than 40 recordings; Dan has performed both domestically and abroad with jazz artists, metal bands, songwriters, folk groups, musical theater, and more.
